Local Beaches
- Playa el Tesorillo: only 200m from apartment. Beautiful little sandy inlet, bordered by rocks, with beach bars/restaurants
- Playa Velilla: the eastern edge of this 2km sand and shingle beach is only 250m from the apartment. Lots of shops, restaurants and water sport options line this beach
- Playa el Pozuelo: only 350m from apartment. Small, delightful beach round the rocky headland to the east of Playa el Tesorillo. Pedalos. Restaurants and bars
- Playa Puerta del Mar: Almuñécar’s main beach, extending from the aquapark to San Cristóbal beach. Lots of shops, restaurants and bars line this beach
- Playa San Cristóbal: extensive beach with broad promenade, ideal for strolling. Bars and restaurants line the beach. Water sport options
- Playa de Cotobro: small and quiet sand & shingle beach just round the headland from San Cristóbal beach. There is a walkway round the rocks to the next beach, which is a nudist bathing area. Restaurant
- Playa de Berengueles: small sandy beach at Marina del Este, (a small, exclusive harbour) with bars and restaurants and only a short walk away at the harbour. Dive shop
- Playa de Cabria: small but popular beach with bars and restaurants
- Playa de Cantarrijan: naturist beach at Cerro Gordo, with bars and restaurants close by
- Playa de la Herradura: “Herradura” means horseshoe, so named because of the shape of the 2km sandy beach which fronts the town of the same name. Bars and restaurants
- Slightly further to the west (in the direction of Málaga) there are several small, secluded beaches that are accessible by foot only
Other Areas of Interest
Perfectly viable for a day or half-day trip are:
- Harbour & Marina at Marina del Este (20 minutes’ drive away)
- Prehistoric caves in Nerja (30 minutes’ drive away)
- Wildlife Park Peña Escrita (inland from Almuñécar/La Herradura)
- Sightseeing in Granada, including the famous Alhambra Palace (1 hour drive to Granada)
- Walking/Touring in the Alpujarras (Western end of Alpujarras reached in under an hour’s drive)
